My Life, My Coffee.
I had fun working on this project. Sodoi Coffee is a coffee roasting company/tasting house in Berkley, CA. Jae Chung, the C.E.O., hired me on when they were in the beginning stages of their business. I’m not a coffee drinker myself (I prefer tea), to the surprise of everyone on the Sodoi team. “How can you make us a website for our coffee if you don’t even drink coffee?” asked Jae, with an amused smile on his face. I asked myself this question as well. The answer is this: I am a designer. I design other people’s dreams, even if they aren’t my own.
Jae said he wanted this website to feel classic and simplistic. When I was designing, he said he liked the idea of chalkboards, because they were planning on using chalkboards for the coffee menu at the store. I incorporated this into the background, as well as, the designs of the different coffee roasts. He asked if I would make some print designs as well, such as business cards and a large banner design for an event they were having at a coffee convention. Their coffee at the convention was a hit. People really love this coffee.
At the end of the project, I had a greater appreciation for the process it takes to make coffee (Jae flew me to Berkley just to show me how they roast the beans), enjoyed working with the team and feel honored to have seen this project from start to finish. If you are looking for some unique and freshly roasted coffee, look no further than Sodoi Coffee. Of course, don’t take my word for it. I still prefer tea.
